Walking in a Winter Wonderland!

So I am the first to admit that I love warm climates, sunshine and heat. But I live in Northern Alberta. And I am not the type to be miserable so I embrace what is and find the beauty.

Yes folks, it is winter again up here in da Nord. The snow is here, the days are mostly dark and the temps are dropping. This year I bought myself a kick ass parka- down filled, to my shins and complete with a fur trimmed hood! This has gone a looong way to upping the happy factor in my winter world. I spend a good chunk of my life walking my dog, and this jacket is like having a wonderful traveling sleeping bag wrapped around me. We had a huge snowfall last week and I was really grateful for my Eskimo princess jacket ;)

This past week I was on the road with D and we had a great time. We finished off the trip in Jasper and Friday night it snowed all night and we woke up to a winter postcard!

I have been love love loving the group running. My Women of Strength training group did 18km on Sunday, and I am continually impressed and inspired with how far they have come! I managed 21.2km with all the back and forth and am also continually amazed at how easy and enjoyable running is when I am well within my comfort zone :)

I am a little worried that I might forget how to run in that 'other' gear...but I'll deal with that when the time comes. :)

I am in complete agreement with you about warmer climates...Sigh. :)

Mike and I really noticed the daylight difference when we went to GP. It gets dark WAY earlier there than here!

The pics are stunning. I love how every time I check your blog you have fiddled with the background -- it's like a double whammy present: I get to read a new post PLUS I get to see what changes you've made! :)

Your Women of Strength group is doing soooo awesome. But is it really any wonder? They are blessed with a solid coach and super positive mentor. And I read that article on facebook and noted how you served your gang lattes after a run! EEE!!! I want to come back up there and run so I can get a latte too! :)

I also have a sleeping bag coat. It is a burgundy down-filled parka that comes down to my shins, from Patagonia. I bought it a few years ago (off ebay) and Mike calls it my "old lady coat." I do have the requisite black puffer coat (LOL!) but I HATE having my back get cold. Sleeping bag coats ROCK!! Although I like your term of Eskimo Princess Coat better. Hahahahahahaha!

(P.S. I am still LOVING that toque you gave me. You were right -- that sucker ROCKS!)

I need a "winter princess" coat for the hockey rink!! It is on the list to buy in the next few months.

No such thing as bad weather, only poor clothing choices.

I agree with Keith. :)

It was 32C when I purchased my new down filled coat and super warm boots, and Greg was teasing me. When the first wave of cold weather came in October we both laughed...who knew a month later I would need them?

Great post and pictures, as always!

Smiles,
Naomi :)
